HARES: Cheesecake
THEME: Elvis Has Left the Building
VENUE: Misty’s American Diner, 103 High Street Prahran.
The diner was straight out of the 1950’s with juke boxes at every booth, photos of Elvis and other movie stars on the walls, also car vehicle registration plates from all 50 of the United States. Having ordered our Texas burgers, fried fish with fat chips, etc., we put our dimes in the jukebox and rocked on to some good old fashioned rock’n roll.
GM called for the customary BOS outside, where The Returnees were welcomed back, including Swingers who was about to achieve his 100th Run. Prince, the Hare’s assistant, said to look out for Elvis memorabilia, 5 photos of Elvis which he’d lovingly put up along the trail. Cheesecake said to look out for historical buildings and features and gave out maps and instructions, to mutterings of “Are we going to be tested on this?” Swingers had the honour of leading the Pack On Out for his 100th Run, with the rest of the Runners, champing at the bit, hot on his heels.
RUN REPORT: By Botak Chin: The trail was very similar to the first Run I ever did with Lakeside. It took off in a southerly direction around the back streets, past the College Lawn Hotel where I saw GG sitting drinking instead of being on the Walk. There were a lot of Checks at the beginning leading to Malvern Road, then Toorak Road where I found Udder Idjit . He said ”Don’t follow me , I’m going home.” So I went all the way back and finally found trail. It was a good Run and I got to see some parts of Prahran that I’ve never been to before, even though I live here. Scored :– 36/40
WALK REPORT: By Gargoyle: We headed out to the Right of the diner, soon crossing High Street and turned left into a street where we went left again and crossed over the railway line, having done a semi-circle on to another main road. We followed the historical markers and kept our eyes open for anything associated with Elvis. It was a lovely Walk. We found the Elvis motorbike from the film “Stay Away Joe, the donut place, where Elvis would have enjoyed eating a donut if he was still around, and a weiner cafe. There were big pictures of Johnny Cash and David Bowie. There were historical buildings, 8 of them and a garden named after Prince. We saw Gladys Street, I think Elvis’ mum was called Gladys. It was a very nice Walk. Scored: – 39/40
