HARES: Blood Sucka & Mutha Trucka
LOCATION: Montague Park, Frankston
RUN REPORT
It was looking like the long trip to Frankston may have deterred a few hashers. The run did not start until 6:40pm, but several turned up just after the start and a credible pack of 21 headed along Kars Street back towards Frankston. The first check seemed to take too long to break, but it tightened the pack and allowed the latecomers to catch up. Trail then ran East and into the little park between the Bowls club and the Croquet club. Chalk does not work too well on grass, so great effort was made in checking the nearby laneway, but as is often the case with a cunning hare, trail was found ‘where it could not be because that’s the direction we came from’.
At this stage the pack was fairly tight, running on through familiar territory and into Beauty Park, site of a run long ago. The pack soon started to spread out around the oval and down towards the Bay and Nepean Highway. Shortly after we found ourselves staggering up the steps to The Esplanade before heading down again along Grandview Lane and more steps with magnificent views of the Bay. By now the FRB usual suspects of POG, 4 Pack & Quicklay had opened up a gap and disappeared. No-one had chalk and the remaining runners were hoping in vain to hear calls of On On.
Kokup thought the trail might head up some steps and as Klingon did not appear to be able to find trail ahead, proceeded to look. Back Again followed, but turned back again, to join Cheesecake. Meanwhile, there was no trail at the top of the steps, but it was too far back. Maybe trail was in Warringa Road, but it wasn’t – only great views, big houses and expensive cars. Must be in Cliff Street – wrong again. How about Violet Street? As it turned out yes, but not at this end! So after checking Fenton Street and Liddesdale Avenue, trail was found into the Sweetwater Creek Nature Reserve where E&B was wandering alone through the bush and along the boardwalks etc.
After the Nature Reserve trail meandered through some suburban streets back to Montague Park where the disgruntled FRB’s, victims of their own pace, were all muttering about a lack of grog. Point Post did not have his usual walking partner to push him along and seemed to have been distracted, coming in later with the walkers and the grog.
Overall a good run, great views, some new territory, plenty of hills, steps and tracks to build up the heart rate and worthy of the trip to Frankston and the score of 2000 out of 1989.
WALK REPORT
Read the above veeeeery slooooowly as the walkers did the same trail and also enjoyed it.
