The wonderful thing about Alzheimer’s is forgetting what you didn’t want to forget – and not knowing that you have; maybe the aim of keeping the pack together during Astro and GG’s South Melbourne run extravaganza was simply an omission like GG forgetting that Collingwood weren’t in the finals… Who knows? Ah yes, just as well the pack returned from the circumnavigation of lakes and shrines in dribs and drabs – I’m not sure that The George could have coped with the usual hash rush at the bar and an instant demand for food. We had entered the slow zone.
Entering the hotel’s dining room was another Alzheimer moment – I’d forgotten that pubs used to have genteel surroundings like this; obviously they’d forgotten too because the ambience was somewhat ruined by the allocation of hashers to Table 1 or Table 2 or the forgotten third table in the corner!
Had the chef forgotten how to cook? That was Table 1’s summation of their dining experience with the steak; certainly the kitchen had forgotten or destroyed Punch’s dinner so much so that the circle had to wait for her to finish – which is saying something since everyone on Table 2 didn’t get served until after Table 1. Are you following all this? No, well, forget it…
The circle commenced with the GM and GrogMaster on opposite sides of the table – adding to the laid back nature of the night. The hares were roasted for the run by E&B, especially for setting a check on a main road (virgins take note) which Astro hastened to explain must have been GG’s fault as he had set the onbacks and checks! Apparently it was a run to forget even by those who saw trail. Swiss Roll took a drink as an almost forgotten returnee and Clitus had a down down for 25 runs. Brenda was charged for being the only non-member of the hash (she paid her $2 run fee). (Note: HashCash is threatening bodily violence for those cheap bastards who don’t pay their dues – actually I made that up). KlingOn’s mum Audrey (or Mrs On for those respectful types) took a charge for being at her first run.
The circle was handed over to KlingOn for the footy tipping competition results and handover of winners and losers envelopes – no quibbling now, you had to be there to get the money! Naturally nepotism won out somewhere along the line. Mrs On came second after MaxCusCuz with Cheesecake third.
Thank goodness someone realised that no one was taking notes – the OnSec was having too good a time to remember until prompted. So the hastily convened charge sheet includes Punch, Sooty, Miss Piggy (for saying that her fish tasted like fish??), AddOn (for her first modelling gig), Bovine (for providing German breastmilk chocolate), Cooch or is it now Coochicoo (for playing with children’s clothing), Udder (something to do with the Seychelles, rooting and a score of 69), KlingOn (for sending Alice out to work), Astro and GG (for the terrible drink stop – there wasn’t one) and TigerMoth (who managed to get Mothball to drink her down down for her!!)
Announcements. The GM announced the Melbourne Ladies 1450th run Thursday, 23 Sept at The Rising Sun Hotel, Swan St Richmond 7pm as a run we should support. We also had a special preview of the Lake Macquarie area ready for NashHash at Easter 2005 by our local expert Clitus – see the website at Aussie Hash. www.hhh.asn.au/aussienashhash. Father mentioned the next Full Moon run is September 26 and the Melbourne Bike Hash in the King Valley winery area is likely to be November 6/7. And Miss Piggy and Udder were seen planning the Christmas party!
