Run 1399, 13 Oct 2010 Hare: Old Boar and Cod Piece Venue: 3 Crowns Hotel, 365 Victoria St, West Melbourne
Wednesday dawned as a typical hash day in the era of Big Bang. That is it was raining. I don’t know what Big Bang gets up to at the Synchrotron but the ability to make rain should be very valuable in a dry country like Australia. If Bovine Breeder can market it there should be enough money for lots of Little Bangs.
Big Bang being absent the rain stopped just before the run started and due to the hare re-marking the run late in the afternoon the marks could still be seen if one looked. The pack was started by Flem. standing in for the GM. The run was a good mix of On Backs and checks until we reached Grattan Street opposite the University of Melbourne. Here and On Back was found down Malvina Street by the front runners who proceeded to check everywhere to no avail. When all forward possibilities have been exhausted what does one do? One checks back and sure enough the trail was found by the steps at the main entrance to the University. After a check or two and an On Back I was surprised to see an On Home. The run then went straight down Errol Street to the Three Crowns Hotel where we discovered from the hare that we had missed out about half the run. Evidently just before the On Back there was a little lane that the run was supposed to go down. Eventually it then crossed over Lygon Street and came back down Faraday Street before wandering through the University eventually coming to where we had picked it up. As Metatarsus said when giving the run description, “The first quarter of the run and the last quarter where excellent but he could not comment on the middle section”. Interestingly the front running Shit off a Shovel swore he had checked down this lane and found nothing and surprisingly even Mothball stated he had checked there. My excuse was that by the time I arrived the FRB’s had returned to Grattan Street

Prince for leaving the chalk behind in the hotel when the hare had given to him for the purpose of marking the checks.
Mothball for telling Cyclone he was going to walk and then running.
Metatarsus, Old Boar, Mothball, Cyclone and Cheesecake for not going to the coming weekend in Harrietville.
