Waitangi Day Run

A smallish pack of approximately 20 assembled beside the Yarra River to celebrate Waitangi Day without our former GM and ex pat Kiwi, Prince. Waitangi Day commemorates a significant day in the history of New Zealand to celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, in 1840 – New Zealand’s founding document. The run started over the Anderson St Bridge, a long grind down the Yarra River adjacent to the Monash Freeway to a railway bridge crossing and back to Alexandria Ave. The trail then wound its way through Darling Gardens, up Station St to Toorak Rd. The front running bastards then had a short route straight home via Domain Road and Anderson St, but a couple of stragglers in Astro and Cut Loose decided that the run must go through Fawkner Park and the Botanic Gardens, so therefore they came in 20 minutes after the real runners. The walkers were delighted with their scenic walk along the river and fashion shopping in Toorak St. The run length was approximately 6 kms which suited everyone except the athletes in training – they know who they are.

The Circle Sooty and Pointy served up copious quantities of ham and salads to feed the hungry pack. Shovel, the GM started the circle with a down down for Pointy and Sooty accusing them of stuffing up the run and getting the run location confused with Andrews St BBQ. POG provided the run report and described it as a short, quick and pretty reasonable run worth scoring at 1114/1480.

Shovel then decided that we should all play an intelligent quiz game to make the circle interesting for a change. Teams of four, comprising GG, Cut Loose, Lubang and Handful squared off against Rolf, Barter Bitch, Dr Bonar and Klingon. It was a Pick a Box type event with first in with the buzzer getting the opportunity to answer very difficult questions relating to Oz/Kiwi relations. Klingon’s team was eliminated in 4 questions and Lubang was the last man standing from the winning team. He knew questions such as who was rightful winner of the rugby world cup (Oz) and how much does a Kiwi pay to get into the Treaty Ground to view the founding memorabilia (NZ$0). The most difficult question was, “What do you call an unemployed Australian?” Please log into next week’s run report for the answer.

Down Downs SOS – one Kiwi drinks, all Kiwi’s drink Klingon – 650 runs Toffee – 40 runs GG – accepting old Hash T-shirts from Barter Bitch Shovel – boring us senseless with a quiz game Mouthful – thinks that Handful is perfect in every way Lubang – senior’s moment in remembering that Trevor Chappell cannot bowl over arm Luboil and Colours – stuffing up the naming of the down downs Klingon – confusing Andrews St with Anderson St Mouthful – appointment as inaugural GM of Half Moon Hash Flem – last drink

Announcements Red Dress Run on Feb 24th – Barter Bitch as annual organiser said that there will be “Thong” Stops for each Hash Club to get down and dirty. New Moon Hash on Feb 18 – new GM, Mouthful said that new Harrietts are expected to attend. Sooty requested that GG not attend as he scares away new Harrietts.
