Run 1625 Report

Date: 3-Sep-14

Hare: Behind Bars

Venue: Union Club Hotel Fitzroy

A large crowd rocked up to the Union Club Hotel for the first run by virgin hare Behind Bars (herein referred to a BB4). This wasn’t BB4’s first visit to the Union Club Hotel. In a previous life, BB4 was the Grand PooBah at the Melbourne Bicycle Touring Club and being a responsible club president keen to promote the healthy virtues of push biking, she joined in the festivities at the Union Club Hotel on 15 March 2009 for the World Naked Bike Ride.

Not the Fitzroy Naked Bike Ride, Not the Melbourne Naked Bike Ride or even the Victorian or Australian Naked Bike Ride. It was the WORLD Naked Bike Ride.

Naked bike riding is invigorating, puts roses in your cheeks and the wind in your hair. But where do you put your phone and wallet? What if you fall in love? What if you have a puncture and get separated from the rest of the pack? BB4 will let us know in her next book “More Behinds”.

Deeper sang a song and NickelB and Codpiece told jokes. The GM and a few others wore Red Cross T Shirts in honour of Bessie Proudfoot, BB4’s grandmother. Bessie was a nurse in WW1.

Kokup gave the runners report. The run passed every one of Fitzroy’s 58 pubs without having a drink stop. BB4 kept the pack together with her envelope clues – strategically located envelopes containing information known only to Lotsa Fun eg. Which harriette started running with Lakeside in 1982 and is still running today? Yes, it’s Lotsa who has run over 10,000 kms including at Lakeside’s 30th anniversary this year. Let’s see, 2014-30years anniversary = 1982?

Punch, with a marvellous recall for detail gave the walk report. The walkers went up Wellington St, down Johnston St, over Alexander Parade, past the Fitzroy Council Chambers, across Moor St, 300 metres down Brunswick St, deviation down Kent St, back into Davis St, then 2 blocks up Napier St to Charles St, backtracking to Condell St, towards Smith St, with a double bluff over to Peel St, back into Smith St, heading towards Webb St via Little Smith St to Gore St until the intersection with Webb St.

As if that wasn’t exciting enough, they were accosted by a Fitzroy resident who’d smoked one too many magic mushrooms – he chased them up the road while playing drums. (him, not them).

BB4 was awarded 93/100.

  • Twisted Sister and Lick N Stick for being unsociable.
  • Kokup and Punch because one of them is not used to getting little things into big holes or big things in little holes – lost the gist of this charge because crowd was unruly.

  • Behind Bars, a rabid Hawthorn supporter, for setting a run from the Union Club Hotel, previously called The Collingwood Hotel.

Heard the following on the Jon Faine program this morning.

Scotland: “This relationship is over. I’m leaving.”

England: “No, please don’t go, surely we can give it another try?”

Scotland: “No, there’s no point in going on, I want out.”

England: ”Please, please don’t leave me ……………I’m pregnant!”
