HARE: Big Ears
VENUE: Big Ear’s riverside retreat in Warrandyte North.
THEME: The Bonfire Run
Either our RA is really, really good or we are really, really lucky. Despite the dire predictions of the Anti Hash Lobby (aka BoM), there was not a drop of rain on the run and none until circle, resulting in perfect conditions for hashing. Combined with Big Ear’s bonfire the setting was perfect. We did reach double figures for the run, but it was our smallest pack this year.
Big Ears warned the pack there were a few local wankers who fence their properties to the river and try to keep people off ‘their’ land, but the run trail was all set on public land. He did meet and have a discussion with one of them while setting the run and hoped the trail was still there.
The benefit of a small turnout is that the pack had to try and eat all of the food Big Ears had prepared, but despite our best efforts, he is going to be eating chicken, roast potatoes and salads for a while.
RUN REPORT: By Cooch Scored 540/700
We were looking forward to an amazing run and started off in the bush behind Big Ears place. The run took in the Yarra River and fantastic scenery. The running pack was small and it was difficult to find trail at times with the pack getting lost, leading Swingers to lose it and be heard to swear for the first time – something about wanting to give the f…..g run away. Part of the trail may have been removed by the nice people living in the area and one clown gave the pack a hard time for being on ‘private property’. After getting clear and onto the road, trail was eventually found and followed the whole way home. Even with the occasional barbed wire fence and the local landowner harassment, it was an enjoyable run.
WALK REPORT: By Point Post Scored ???/700
The first part of the trail was along the river and was very peaceful with plenty of trail – then there was no trail. After back tracking and searching, there was still no trail so the walkers found and crossed the road to come home and then found trail again ahead of the runners. An interesting observation was the part built house surrounded by scaffold which Big Ears said has been there for 30 years – apparently abandoned to ‘spite’ some of the local wankers.
