Run 1993—Western Suburbs H3 AGM
Tue 23 March 2021 from the Ascot Vale Hotel
Hares: Doona and Danish Blue
Lakeside HHH was well-represented at the Western Suburbs AGM. The location, being way off in the west, was most attractive to 4-Pack who lives around the corner. Most of the Melbourne hash chapters were there – Royal Peninsula, Melbourne, D&E, Melbourne Ladies, and the newest hash chapters in town – Lockdown Liberation Hash and the Melbourne Prohibition Hash… which all made for an extremely noisy pub dinner and circle.
The welcoming committee of Eat Me and Scrubber handed us all a pair of “See You Next Tuesday” socks in exchange for $30, and then we had time to buy a pre-run drink. Outgoing GM, Rambo, welcomed everyone from outside the pub before hares, Doona and Danish Blue, briefed us all and set us off. No idea where we were for most of the run. Pythag and I got caught twice by on-backs along the Moonee Ponds canal with Happy, Top Gum and Door Stop, after previously having taken another falsie by the Moonee Ponds Sports Centre.
Unlike the eastern suburbs where the homes are knocked down and replaced with modernity, the real estate was well-presented, renovated early 20th century Federation homes, with return verandahs, lead-light windows, gloriously wood-carved doors and decorative fretwork. And the footpaths were obviously level because the scribe was looking more at the houses than the trail.
The drink stop was up to the standard of what we expect from WSH3 – plenty of beer, bubbles, RED bubbles, snakes & lollies and chocolates – and good people to reacquaint with.
Back at the pub, after about 7km of running and walking, pre-ordered dinners were brought out – the usual parmas, burgers and something new on the menu – calamari and salad. All really good. The cheap white wine, cement walls and tiled floor and noisy locals made for a huge headache though. I thought I had a loud voice but I was a mere squeak amongst the likes of In Limbo, Doona, Lester and the Prohibition blokes and the new RPH GM. Punch was asked to give the walk report and it was impossible to hear her. In Limbo gave the run a score of 9/10.
Visiting GMs were welcomed with a DD or two, and then we all made our announcements – including our 2000th on 19 May and our AGM on 14 July – and many more special runs coming up in the next few months. Raffle was drawn – many prizes to offset the attendance fee.
The old committee was celebrated and then Rambo announced that the new GM would be whoever’s name was drawn out of his hat. It was Dementia. Surprise! She wasn’t. She was well prepared, introducing her new committee which included the usual suspects – Doona, Marbles, Danish Blue, Shadow, TJ, Benny and – the oldest hasher in WSH – Boner.
All over at 10ish and we were let out to let the headaches begin. A great night!
