Run 1077, 2 Feb 2005 Hare: Sooty & Gumboot Venue: Westgate Park, Todd Road, Port Melbourne
A very small and bedraggled crowd turned up at the barbecue area in Westgate Park. It was the coldest February Day on record and the wettest day in Melbourne ever but we still went hashing!! Sooty and Gumboot gave up on traditional trail markings. Instead of chalk or flour, they gouged arrows into the dirt. Despite their ingenuity, trail was still very hard to find. Needless to say, it was a very short run. A quick lap of the lake and back to the barbecue shelter.
Dinner soon followed. Sooty had promised us a hangi to celebrate Waitangi Day. But the kiwis couldn’t get their act together and we had to make do with ham sandwiches. It was a cold night so we warmed the ham on the barbecue.
The circle was short and sharp. The hares got their due. There were no visitors – they have more sense than to come out on such a wet night. Just about everybody got a down-down for something or other. No notes were taken and even if they were, they would have soon been sodden and unreadable.
