Run 1438, 01 Jun 2011 Hare: Egg & Bacon Pie Venue: Beach Hotel, Beaconsfield Pd, Albert Park

A decent sized pack set off from The Beach Hotel at about 6.50 after being dragged away from the open fire and private room, tables set for 25 with white linen including napkins and candles.  This was a fine welcome to a great night.

E&B briefed the pack that the run was set in flour plonker arrows set 20 paces apart.  Unfortunately she omitted telling the walkers that their short cutters’ trail was a live hare job.  Should’ve been an easily seen run but the runners still got lost.  The run went north, then south then north again, looping around the long way and providing an easy trail of shortcutting for the walkers.  A check led up to Cut Loose’s Albert Park “city” townhouse and then eventually to Victoria Road and up to the park in the centre of the crescent where the runners were led around the perimeter and back to meet the walkers.  Then on to Port Melbourne, down to the beachfront and on home to the coziness of The Beach.

Sumptious meals were brought out – eventually.  And then the circle gathered around the fire – once the crowd of red crested harriettes was disbursed and replaced by red crested harriers.  SOAS ran the circle in lieu of the GM.  The run was given a woeful score by Tricky Dicky who explained later that it’s unhashlike to compliment the hare.

We welcomed back Whack and Crack Up.  The General also returned for his second run – a good sign.  Cod Piece was off on her walk across the UK but was farewelled with her 100 run goblet – a year late.  More 100 run goblets and tankards were issued to It Wasn’t Me, Flem and Lubang Oz, also about 6 months late.  A 300 run shirt was presented to Astro after running with Lakeside since about 1997, and 50 Runs Certificates were awarded to Cut Loose, Cyclone Tracy and Shit Off A Shovel.

Heaps of down downs were awarded for various reasons with everyone getting something.   Everyone seemed to have a good time and not want to go home.
