Run 1729 | 7th Jun 2016 | Point Post @ Pointy’s Place, Hawthorne

One arrived at Pointy’s house to be confronted by a garage full of splendiferous vehicles
including a fire engine red Porsche which does 0 to 345 km p/hr in 6 minutes & 57 seconds
over 20 kms.

In the 70s when your scribe was driving her 1962 Beetle, 6.57 minutes gave me time to
extract a piece of stick secreted under the driver’s seat, open the front bonnet and insert
the said stick in the petrol tank, to ascertain the petrol level from wetness of stick. If the
tank was full, I then lifted the back seat to see whether the old 6 volt battery system could
sustain a trip to the shops. 6.57 minutes got me from stationary to out of the garage. (Not
making this up, old Beetle’s didn’t have fuel gauges)

CheeseCakesFirstCar

Cheesecake’s first car – a powder blue 1962 VW

At the other end of the vehicle evolutionary scale, when Pointy first went shopping for his
Porsche he was spoilt for choice.

ShouldHeGetABlondOne

Should he get a blonde one?

ShouldHeBuySecondHand

Should he buy second-hand?

MayBeAVintageOne

Maybe a vintage one?

WhatIfThePope

What if the Pope comes to Hawthorn?

Speaking of the Pope and Hawthorn, you’ll remember that a Hawthorn vicar once posted a
sign outside his church saying: “What would you do if God came to Hawthorn?” below
which someone scrawled: ”Shift Peter Hudson to Centre Half Forward”.

Returnees

NIckelBy, Lotsa Fun, Prickly

Walker’s Report

Swamp Rat – walk report- nice suburb, lots of arrows, 1880 Victorian mansions and new
houses, nice back streets 29/29.

Run Report

Back Beard – run report – lots of hills, beautiful use of traffic lights as a Hash Halt; the ghost
of Dermott Brereton wafted by as we ran through old Hawthorn footy ground. The pack was
condensed, then spread out, then coagulated or clotted, into a bunch of clots 28.5/29.

night. Prize is one of the white LSH tracksuit outfits which haber-dash has been unable to
sell holding onto due to its rarity.

*** You can see my scrunched-up VW in the foyer of the NGV till September.
