Run Report

The crowds and the clouds gathered simultaneously and confusion reigned or rained from each. Inside, the crowd asked each other, where are the hares? And should we order meals before going out? Outside, the clouds asked themselves, Shall we rain now or wait til they are well and truly too far from the pub to turn back? (The answers were: No I Dear, Nah, and the latter.)

The trail went around and about, up Lygon Street a ways and then into the Melbourne Uni maze. There were enough checks & on-backs that the wet walkers kept meeting up with the wet runners, until finally all of them managed to lose the wet trail just before, around, or in the wet park after Royal Parade. As Shagadelic later described the trail, it was Cold, Wet, & Dark. After a fine meal of $7 Chinese or more expensive hamburgers or chicken in pyjamas, the circle began.

After the Hares were charged for the run, hare Maureen, soon to return to KL, told us about Pan Asia 2003, still only $70US. Visitors & Virgins were recognised: Cold Duck from Botany Bay H3, Leilani (Mrs. O’Doush) from LA, and Danielle (the virgin). [Danielle stated that she “enjoyed being led astray and would like to go all the way next time”. Good hash material!] Hugo was also welcomed back.

“Mystery Whip #1” was then called up to give charges. This was meant to be Janus, but as he was AWOL watching the Swedes sizzle the Samba-dancers in Soccer, The Boomerang (apparently “Mystery Whip #2” stepped up to the plate. Deep Throat drank because the Italians all lay down. Quasimodo drank for competitive running, sprinting at the end of the run (maybe the trickling water had its effect on basic functions!). Barterbitch drank for advertising that you all can get Mates Rates on your internet service – just sign up at Pacific Internet (15% discount) and quote her code, PACNET 000002. Queen Bea & Maureen drank for laying arrows where they were sure to be washed away.

Several Sartorial Splendour charges then ensued: GG for wearing a tent and staying dry; Queen Bea for his see-through black polyester button-down shirt. (Bovine Breeder claimed he was also wearing a see-through bra under it!). The Boomerang drank for not teaching Queen Bea how to properly (1) set trail and (2) dress. Quasimodo had one for excessive interest in Boomer & QB’s domestic arrangements, which perhaps is why she was so late with this week’s run report.

(At this point the MW1, Janus, finally appeared to do his Whip duties and was promptly sacked. The GM then drank for picking lousy Mystery Whips.). The next set of charges are just as I wrote ‘em, I don’t understand them either.

Toto

was charged for erections while she wasn’t looking; GG for quietude; Hugo for existentialism (Being There); Boner for political activism (the Gandhi look); Lotsa Fun for lack of motivational retail (not selling anything), and Johnny (the publican) for not letting E&B feel his red hairy bit.

Cold Duck

drank for using hash as a wine-tasting event; Quasimodo for trying to upstage Boomer as hashflash with her disposable camera; Queen Bea got one for having the gall to charge someone else with “lack of fashion sense”.

Last but not least, we made certain Maureen would not leave Lakeside hash without a sense of belonging and a proper hash name. First, she was awarded free hash membership for the rest of 2002 (after she assured the GM she would not likely be back this year). Next, she was named – no it was not “Marlene”, “Marina”, “Marnie” or any of the other things the GM kept calling her – she was named in honour of her run, and to be known forever henceforth, as “Wet Dream”.
