Run 1205, 02 May 2007 Hare: Flem Venue: Bundoora Park Bundoora

We ventured deep into the northern suburbs for virgin hare Flem’s run through Bundoora Park behind Smorgys. Probably the first time most had ever looked at Melways Map 19, while Boxy and Dumb Bastard Run decided to go to Mill Park instead but had 2nd thoughts and joined the rest of us.

Run started  past old Bundoora Repat Hospital, and on to mega McMansions which we goggled at on our way to Mt Cooper – elevation 197.3 metres and allegedly the highest point in metro Melbourne. Stopped for superb views of city and planes coming into Tullamarine while the more energetic actually went looking for trail. On through some bushy areas and around golf course across Plenty Rd, through La Trobe Uni and onto some more McMansions – always keeping Smorgys as our geographical reference point. It was sort of a giant run around Smorgys.

Also learned that if you really want to annoy sulpher crested cockatoos, walk under their nesting trees about 7.30pm – they go ballistic and screech like there’s no tomorrow. Probably annoyed residents of nearby McMansions too. Denis later regaled me with a tale of how he’s once asked a young lady whether she like a cockatoo. Therupon we hit the on-home trail and met GG and TIgerMoth walking backwards.

Flem hasn’t been with us long, but he has intuitively picked up on the first law of hashing – if you don’t want them to whinge, feed them lots of food. Flem, with assistance from It Wasn’t Me, toasted some bread (whatever was left by Lotsa) on the BBQ and made us all heaps of yummy bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches, and some got egg sangers as well, followed up by chocolate cake. There was enough for seconds and thirds.

Charges

Significant Runs Boxy x 10 It Wasn’t Me x 13

Hare was awarded 14 out of 53 for the run. A really good charge involving Mothball and Flem pertaining to chalk, and poles which I can’t remember but which was very funny at the time. It Wasn’t Me charged for not making the most of pillow talk to find out where the run actually went. GG for tipping Essendon instead of Collingwood. Lotsa for eating all the bread and forgetting about carbo overload. GG and Tigermoth for walking backwards. GG fashion charge for wanting to wear a netball skirt. E&B for giving It Wasn’t Me the size 12 netball skirt when she grew too big for it. E&B and Prince charged together for something I can’t remember. Pointy or Cooch charged for recycling.
