Run 1642 Report

Date: 24-Dec-14

Hares NickelB & Lotsafun

Location: 3/25 Riversdale Road, Hawthorn

The hares had two important bits of information before the run. The checks were 360o and there were onbacks on the trail. Apparently not too many hashers were listening, because the first check in Morang Road had hashers spread out everywhere, except back in Riversdale Road where trail crossed the river and into the University. Ambidextrous found the first on back (and most of the others), which seemed to be at every downhill part of trail.

Trail crossed the river, emerging in Toorak to a long on back at Heyington Station. As promised by the hare, there was plenty of top end real estate with gardens to match and lotsahills making it lotsafun. The Santa hats worn by most hashers received some strange looks from the natives, but some cheered us on from their balcony BBQ’s. Trail left the streets of Toorak and followed a gravel track along the rail line to a check at Kooyong Station.

This check had multiple options which were all thoroughly checked for long distances, except for one path leading into the rail station – where it couldn’t possibly go. With the pack milling around, Swamp Rat had a sneak peak at the map showing the path to the station continued, eventually leading to an underpass and across to another check. The general consensus was that trail could not possibly go left because you can’t cross the Creek, but that’s where Sweaty Box found it, eventually leading into Kooyong Park. Somehow Pointy had been beamed down to the other side of the Park alongside Gardiners Creek, where he was waving us over. A new footbridge that no-one knew about crossed Gardiners Creek into Hawthorn where more hills were encountered.

The hare was found in a small park on the banks of the Yarra manning an alcoholic watermelon stop, which was very refreshing. From there it was an easy trot on home.

The walkers deviated from the run near Burnley Gardens and followed a picturesque trail along Yarra Boulevard across the Yarra and onto the boardwalk along Gardiners Creek, before rejoining the run trail to the watermelon stop.

Hashers were treated to homemade hors d’oeuvres, followed by traditional roast turkey, ham and all the trimmings. Homemade mince pies and gingerbread followed by chocolate & rum sweets topped off a great Christmas Eve run.

Ambidextrous scored the run 1,400 out of 1642. He didn’t like all the downhill on backs he found.

Colours scored the walk 1,635 out of 1642.

The food was scored 1,641 out of 1642.
